Only the US opposed the Gaza ceasefire resolution in the Security Council.

The UAE drafted a resolution with the help of 97 UN member states regarding an immediate ceasefire in Gaza. This resolution was presented to the Security Council. However, the US voted against it and vetoed it. .

The UN Security Council has 15 member countries, including 10 non-permanent and 5 permanent member countries. All 10 of the non-permanent countries voted in favor of this resolution. Among the permanent countries, France, Russia and China voted in favor of the resolution while the US voted against it and vetoed it. Meanwhile the UK was absent.

China’s representative to the Security Council said after the resolution was vetoed: “We regret Washington’s use of veto against a draft resolution calling for a ceasefire despite the continuing massacres. Condoning the continuation of the fighting contradicts the claim of concern for the lives and safety of people in Gaza.”
