The US Department of Defense is concerned about the expensive missiles used to shoot down drones and missiles used in Houthi attacks.

An official says that the cost offset is not on their side. Experts estimate the drones of Houthis cost just $2,000 at most. The larger Shahed-136 is estimated at $20,000.
While the missiles used to shoot them down cost up to 2.1 million dollars.

“That quickly becomes a problem because the most benefit, even if we do shoot down their incoming missiles and drones, is in their favor. We, the U.S., need to start looking at systems that can defeat these that are more in line with the costs they are expending to attack us.” said Mick Mulroy, a former DOD official and CIA officer.

The Evolved Sea Sparrow Missile (ESSM), designed to hit anti-ship cruise missiles, drones or helicopters at a range of up to 50 kilometers. Each one costs more than $1 million. Experts think the US is using the SM-2(cost: $2.1 million) and ESSM missiles against the Houthi threats so far.

The Houthis reacted to the coalition of 39 countries against them.
