13 students lost their lives in a fire in a school dormitory in China.

A fire broke out at a private school dormitory for kindergarten and primary school students in Nanyang, Henan Province, China, around 11:00 p.m. on Friday.

According to sources, the fire fighters brought the fire under control at 11:38.

13 students lost their lives in the fire, the cause of which is still unknown, one student who was injured is undergoing treatment in the hospital.

There were 30 students in the room at the time of the fire, of which 16 were evacuated. A student said that a teacher woke him up in the middle of the night and told him to go out. According to the student, the air was filled with the smell of smoke.

It was reported that female students were staying on the second floor of the hostel and male students were staying on the third floor.

The school principal has been taken into custody and an investigation into the incident has been initiated.
