The conflict between Azerbaijan and Armenia has been going on for several decades. This conflict was over some areas, which according to the United Nations resolutions belonged to Azerbaijan but were occupied by Armenia. These areas are known as Karabakh. Azerbaijan Karabakh was captured by war in recent months and Armenia retreated. However, tensions between the two countries remain.
The European Union has warned Azerbaijan that violation of Armenian territorial unity will have serious consequences.
Additionally, the EU is considering providing military arms and visa freedom to Armenia under the European Face Facility.
