Kensington Palace, the official residence of Britain’s Crown Prince William, has announced that the Princess of Wales is in hospital following successful abdominal surgery.

Princess Kate, 42, was admitted to the London Clinic on Tuesday for a routine check-up.

The news comes as Buckingham Palace revealed that King Charles will undergo treatment for an enlarged prostate.

The king’s condition has been described as ‘out of danger’ and he will go to hospital next week for treatment, after which he will spend some time recovering.

Princess Kate’s operation on Tuesday was declared a success by doctors. Based on medical advice, the future queen is now expected to spend at least 10 to 14 days in hospital before Easter to recover.

The palace refused to confirm what illness Kate was being treated for but confirmed that she did not have cancer.

The Prince of Wales has canceled his upcoming visit to Italy with his wife. The Crown Prince will not carry out official duties during Kate’s hospital stay or immediately after her return home.

Prince William has prioritized spending time with Princess Kate and taking care of their children and has therefore postponed many of his official engagements.

“Based on current medical advice, Princess Kate is unlikely to return to official duties until after Easter,” a statement said.

A Kensington Palace spokesman said: ‘The Princess of Wales is grateful for the public interest generated by this statement.’

According to the statement: ‘She hopes that the public will understand her desire to maintain the privacy of her children and her desire for their medical information to remain private as well. “Kensington Palace will therefore only provide updates on the Prince’s health progress when there is significant new information to share.”

The London Clinic, in central London, where the Princess underwent surgery, has treated members of the royal family, including Prince Philip and Princess Margaret, as well as actresses Elizabeth Taylor and John F. Kennedy.
