After the Taliban came to power in Afghanistan, China’s influence and investment in the region have significantly increased. Immediately after the Taliban takeover, China began repairing the essential infrastructure that had been damaged by years of conflict, sending a clear message of interest in Afghanistan to the world. Furthermore, China is preparing to open new economic opportunities by engaging with all the countries in the region. A clear example of this is the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC), which is part of the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI). CPEC provides China with easy access to Gwadar Port, allowing for the efficient transportation of goods to global markets.

However, it appears that China is facing challenges in investing in Pakistan and relying on it for its future ambitions. There is a perceived division within the Pakistani establishment between pro-American and pro-Chinese groups, with the American group currently holding significant power. Therefore, according to experts, China is considering an alternative route that would grant it access to Iran’s Chabahar Port. Since Iran has had a confrontational stance towards the United States since the revolution, entering an American camp in this country would be extremely difficult, while China can maintain complete freedom and discretion in its dealings.

Recently, the Chinese Embassy in Pakistan said: “we want to see free and transparent elections in Pakistan. They mentioned that these elections would strengthen China-Pakistan relations and the CPEC. The CPEC faces some challenges, and to ensure its success, further policy, planning, and coordination are required. We do not understand why some external elements are opposing the CPEC. These external and some internal elements are not happy with the Pak-China relations either.”

In these circumstances, Afghanistan’s Deputy Prime Minister Mullah Abdul Ghani Baradar has stated that Afghanistan is ready to provide Wakhan Corridor to china for supply of goods to China. The Wakhan Corridor will not only connect Iran to China but will also play a crucial role in connecting Iran to the Central Asian countries, including Tajikistan and Uzbekistan,on the other hand china will easily use this route instead of CPEC.this rout will provide a great alternative of Gwadar Port, chahbahar to china.

Afghanistan and Iran will play an important role in making China more powerful.
