There is a possibility of a cease-fire in Gaza. The truce could last up to six weeks, during which the 40 Israeli hostages would be gradually released. Among them, women civilians and soldiers will be released first.

In return, Israel will release 400 Palestinian prisoners, some of whom have been convicted of serious terrorist crimes.

Israeli troops will withdraw from some densely populated areas of Gaza, and some Palestinians displaced by the fighting may be able to return to their homes.

Negotiations are ongoing in Qatar, where Egyptian and Qatari mediators are negotiating between Israeli and Hamas representatives, with most issues reportedly unresolved.

The issue is simply the dispute over the number of Palestinian prisoners released for each Israeli hostage.

US Confirmation:

US President Joe Biden has said that the US expects a ceasefire between Israel and Hamas in Gaza by next Monday.

National Security Council spokesman John Kirby said significant progress had been made in the delivery of humanitarian aid to Gaza and the evacuation of hostages.

According to John Kirby, they are working on this development. The president and his team are in constant contact with key allies. But as the president said no deal has been done and a lot of work still needs to be done.

State Department spokesman Matthew Miller said US diplomats were working with Qatar, Egypt and Israel to finalize the deal. But ultimately they will need the consent of Hamas.

Israel’s position

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said on Tuesday that the American people’s support for Israel would lead to overall victory in the war against Hamas.

Netanyahu also complained that he was being pressured to call for a ceasefire when he needed help. He said he had faced international pressure to end the war against Hamas since it began.

The Israeli authorities say that because of the five and a half months of bombardment and the deaths of thousands of their people, the authority of Hamas in Gaza has ended badly. But it is difficult to verify such reports.
